Spare Tire Carriers
Posted on 03/13/2013
Every vehicle needs a spare tire, specially if your are traveling long distances on or off-road (read motorhomes, travel trailers or truck campers), but sometimes deciding the best way to carry the tire may be the big question.
In the case of pickup trucks that carry campers on their cargo beds in many cases may be convenient to move the tire to a more accessible location and one of the solutions in the market is based on a hitch mounted carrier (as seen in the main photo of this post). The reason in the case of small trucks is that keeping the tailgate open to carry the camper will impair the access to the spare tire under the bed (read about campers on small trucks in this post).
For the travel trailers there are many models of spare tire carriers in the market that can be easily attached to the chassis through screws or permanent welding.
Other models that may be considered are bumper tire carriers that can swing out or the way when needed (many models are designed for jeeps but may be adapted to other vehicles).
Take a look to the following options clicking the links for specific details:
The following is a Extreme Max High Mount Spare Tire Carrier suitable for trailers (praised for being very strong).
You can consider also the option of carrying your spare tire on a roof rack as the solution provided by the Surco ST100 Spare Tire Carrier.
One example of bumper spare car carrier is the WARN 64337 Bumper Tire Carrier.
You can explore many other models in Amazon that include the inexpensive galvanized side mounts seen in many trailers (similar to the model seen in the following photo).
